3 Key Consideration for IP Schools

The Integrated Programme (IP) is a 6-year educational track designed for academically strong students, allowing them to bypass the O-Level examinations and progress directly to the A-Level examinations or an equivalent qualification, such as the International Baccalaureate (IB).

One key feature of the IP is that students commit to both their secondary school and its partnering Junior College (JC) from the start. Each IP school has a designated JC partner where students continue their education after completing their first four years of secondary school. This means that once enrolled in an IP school, students are typically expected to stay with their partner JC to complete their A-Level education.

Here’s a list of some Integrated Programme (IP) schools in Singapore and their partnering Junior Colleges (JCs).

Schools offering 6-year programme:

  • School of the Arts (SOTA) – 6 Year Programme
  • Singapore Sport School – 6 Year Programme
  • NUS High School Diploma – 6 Year Programme

At the end of 6th year, students will apply to universities depending on their results.

Most parents often choose IP schools primarily based on their child’s AL score, but this approach might overlook other critical factors. While the AL score gives an idea of your child’s academic capabilities, it doesn’t provide a complete picture of whether an IP school’s differentiated syllabus is the right fit for them.

By looking beyond the AL score and examining the curriculum and teaching approach of each IP school, you can better determine which environment will best support your child’s growth and success.

We understand that some parents may worry about their child struggling in an IP school if they didn’t meet the expected AL score. If you have concerns about your child’s readiness for the IP programme, it’s important to consider their unique learning style and strengths, and to establish the right support systems to help them thrive from the start.
