Feeling lost in GP passages? Struggling to tackle those tricky GP comprehension questions?

JC 1 & 2 | Intensive Bridging Programme

GP Comprehension Bridging Workshop

A 2-day intensive for JC students who need a systematic method for A-Level GP Paper 2.

Most students approach comprehension by reading the passage, hoping they understand it, then answering questions based on instinct. When they happen to get the passage, they score well. When they don’t, there’s nothing to fall back on.

This workshop teaches a different approach. Instead of relying on passage understanding alone, students learn a classification system for every Paper 2 question type. Each type has diagnostic criteria (how to recognise it from the question wording) and a structured answering method. The result is consistency — a method that works regardless of whether the passage is easy or difficult.

A classification system for Short Answer Questions
Every SAQ in the A Level GP paper falls into one of six types. Each type has its own diagnostic criteria and answering structure. Students learn to identify the type first, then apply the right method — no more guessing what the question wants.
A framework for the new cross-passage comparison question
The 2024 A Level syllabus introduced a new question type worth 4–6 marks that requires students to evaluate relationships between ideas across three passages. Our NITS method breaks this down into a repeatable process.
Structured methods for Summary and Application Question
Summary: students learn to use the question’s Focus and Signal to pick out points, then paraphrase using three techniques (synonyms, antonyms, concise language). AQ: students learn a 6-step paragraph structure (Reference, Explanation, ATQ, Context A, Context B, Resolution) with a Singapore contextualisation framework.
  • 90-page workshop booklet covering all four Paper 2 components
  • Theory notes with diagnostic criteria and answering prescriptions
  • Worked samples with two-column answer tables showing exactly how answers are constructed
  • Guided practice (with scaffolding) followed by unguided practice (exam conditions)
  • Full answer keys with model responses
  • Singapore context reference sheet for Application Question
  • In-class exercises with immediate feedback

This workshop is designed for JC students who:

  • Joined Indigo after the J1 Comprehension module had already been covered, and need to catch up on the foundation
  • Are in J2 but missed the J1 Comprehension lessons and have been getting by without a systematic method
  • Can understand passages but score inconsistently because they don’t have a reliable approach to different question types

This workshop is not for students who…

  • Have already completed the J1 Comprehension module with Indigo — the material overlaps with what was taught in regular lessons
  • Are looking for a Paper 1 (Essay) workshop — this is Paper 2 only
  • Want passage practice without technique — this workshop is method-first, practice second

The comprehension materials were useful with many questions for specific types of question types which allowed me to practice each specific question type.

Is this workshop suitable for all JC students?

This workshop is specifically for students who missed the J1 Comprehension module at Indigo. If your child has been attending regular Indigo GP lessons since J1, they have already covered this material and do not need to attend.

What makes this different from other GP crash courses?

Most GP courses focus on content — topics, model essays, practice papers. This workshop is purely about technique. We teach a 6-type classification system for comprehension questions that no other centre offers. Each question type has diagnostic criteria (how to recognise it) and a step-by-step answering method. Students learn to approach every question systematically rather than relying on instinct.

Does this cover the new A-Level GP syllabus?

Yes. The 2024 syllabus introduced a new cross-passage comparison question worth 4–6 marks. Our workshop includes a dedicated section on this question type with a specific answering framework (NITS method).

My child understands the passage but still scores badly. Will this help?

That’s the exact problem this workshop addresses. Understanding the passage is only half the challenge. The other half is recognising what each question is asking for — whether it requires inference, paraphrase, comparison, or a combination. Different question types need different answer structures. If a student treats every question the same way, their scores will be inconsistent.

Can non-Indigo students attend?

Yes. A one-off $75 registration fee applies for non-Indigo students. Students who sign up for regular Indigo GP lessons immediately qualify for the Access+ rate of $500.

What materials will my child receive?

A 90-page workshop booklet containing theory notes, diagnostic criteria, worked samples with answer tables, guided and unguided practice sets, and full answer keys. Students keep this booklet and can use it as a reference right up to their A-Level exam.

What if my child can only attend one day?

We recommend attending both days. Day 1 covers SAQ and the new Cross-Passage Comparison question; Day 2 covers Summary and Application Question. Missing one day means missing two of the four Paper 2 components. The booklet covers everything, but in-class instruction and guided practice cannot be replicated through self-study alone.
